Background of the Study
Blockchain technology, primarily known for its application in cryptocurrencies, has found significant use in improving supply chain transparency. Blockchain provides an immutable, decentralized ledger that enhances traceability, reduces fraud, and ensures that information about goods, from raw materials to finished products, is available in real-time (Okunlola & Tijjani, 2024). Nestlé Nigeria, a leading multinational in the food and beverage sector, has increasingly integrated blockchain into its supply chain operations, aiming to improve product traceability and enhance consumer trust. In Sokoto State, where Nestlé Nigeria operates distribution channels and has a wide network of suppliers, blockchain technology offers a promising solution to improving transparency and efficiency in supply chain management.
The food industry, in particular, faces growing concerns regarding product authenticity and safety, making supply chain transparency an essential aspect of maintaining customer trust (Salihu & Yakubu, 2023). Blockchain allows for the verification of product origins, ensuring that all parties in the supply chain—from farmers to distributors—have access to real-time, accurate data. The adoption of blockchain by Nestlé Nigeria is poised to address these concerns while streamlining operations in Sokoto State, where agricultural supply chains are critical to production.
This study aims to evaluate how Nestlé Nigeria's use of blockchain technology impacts supply chain transparency in Sokoto State and how it contributes to operational efficiency and consumer confidence.
Statement of the Problem
Despite the widespread use of blockchain in global supply chains, there is limited research on its specific impact on supply chain transparency in Nigerian companies. Nestlé Nigeria’s adoption of blockchain technology is still in its early stages in Sokoto State, and its effectiveness in improving transparency and operational efficiency remains unclear. This study seeks to fill the gap in understanding how blockchain technology influences supply chain transparency in Nestlé Nigeria's operations in Sokoto State.
Objectives of the Study
To assess the impact of blockchain technology on supply chain transparency at Nestlé Nigeria in Sokoto State.
To examine the role of blockchain in improving product traceability and reducing supply chain fraud in Nestlé Nigeria’s operations.
To identify the challenges and benefits of implementing blockchain technology in Nestlé Nigeria’s supply chain management in Sokoto State.
Research Questions
How does blockchain technology impact supply chain transparency at Nestlé Nigeria in Sokoto State?
What role does blockchain technology play in improving product traceability and reducing fraud in Nestlé Nigeria’s supply chain operations?
What challenges and benefits are associated with the implementation of blockchain technology in Nestlé Nigeria’s supply chain in Sokoto State?
Research Hypotheses
